Prof. Dr. Hermann Kappelhoff

Hermann Kappelhoff gained his Doctorate in 1993 for his study on the poetology of Weimar auteur cinema. His professorial thesis on melodrama in cinema as a paradigm for a theory of artificial emotionality was published in 2001. Since 2003 he is Professor of Film Studies at the Free University of Berlin and chaired the interdisciplinary research center “Languages of Emotion”. As of late, he is supervising the project “Migrantenmelodramen und Einwanderungskomödien“ on media formats of German-Turkish senses of community, which is part of the newly established Collaborative Research Centre 1171: “Affective Societies - Dynamics of social coexistence in mobile worlds.”

Prof. Dr. Michael Wedel

Michael Wedel was awarded his Doctorate in 2005 for his work on the history and aesthetics of German musical film. From 2005 to 2009, he was Assistant Professor for the History and Theory of Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam. Currently, he is Professor for Media History in the Digital Age at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF where he also holds the vice-presidency for research.
