In regard to this year's research focus Cinematic Image and Historical Experience, Thomas Elsaesser will give a public lecture on November 29 at the Freie Universität Berlin. Currently senior fellow at Cinepoetics, Elsaesser's talk "Trapped in Amber: On the Historicity of Images" will explore metaphors of memory and the latest turn toward a materialist locatedness of history.

We are very pleased that the acclaimed film scholar will refer to his own film THE SUN ISLAND (2017). Here, Thomas Elsaesser reflects on the biography of architect and town planner Martin Elsaesser (1884 - 1957) in a fascinating way.
